Organize duplicates, names and ZIP files without losing originals
Identify needed files and duplicates before packaging them. Duplicate detection groups files with identical bytes, while renaming creates copies. Review the outputs and name mapping before making an archive.
Use the free tool →Matching names do not prove matching content
Duplicate detection uses SHA-256 to group byte-identical files, not visually similar pictures or documents with the same meaning. Review its report and the rename mapping to compare original and output filenames.
ZIP packaging differs from GZIP compression
The basic ZIP tool uses STORE to package files without promising size reduction. GZIP is a separate format, not the same as a multi-entry ZIP archive. Check which format the receiving app supports.
Archive inspection is not malware scanning
ZIP inspection reviews the archive’s list and structure; it is not an antivirus scan. Check unknown files’ origins before running them. Large archives depend on expanded size and available device memory, so inspect the resulting file list and count.
Choose the right tool
Example inputs illustrate the workflow; they do not promise a particular file size, recognition accuracy or compatibility.
Create a ZIP archive
Bundle several attachments into one archive. This does not lower the quality of individual images or PDFs.
Example
a.pdf + b.png → archive.zip- Choose files in Any file type format. Maximum files per batch: 100.
- Check the input format and file order, then start processing.
- Download the ZIP result and check its content and quality.
What to check
Already-compressed images and videos may shrink very little. Large batches still require browser memory.
Extract ZIP files
Extract supported files from a ZIP as new copies. Password protection or unsupported compression can prevent extraction.
Example
archive.zip → individual supported entries- Choose files in ZIP format. Maximum files per batch: 1.
- Check the input format and file order, then start processing.
- Download the Files result and check its content and quality.
What to check
Encrypted ZIP, ZIP64, symlinks, unsafe paths and excessive expansion ratios are rejected.
Compress a file with GZIP
Compress one file into a GZIP stream. Use ZIP when multiple files need to be bundled together.
Example
report.txt → report.txt.gz- Choose files in Any file type format. Maximum files per batch: 1.
- Check the input format and file order, then start processing.
- Download the GZIP result and check its content and quality.
What to check
GZIP stores one stream, not a directory of files. Use ZIP to package multiple files together.
Decompress a GZIP file
Restore the original bytes of a GZIP stream. The restored format still needs an appropriate reader.
Example
report.txt.gz → report.txt- Choose files in GZ, GZIP format. Maximum files per batch: 1.
- Check the input format and file order, then start processing.
- Download the Files result and check its content and quality.
What to check
A .tar.gz expands to a TAR file; this tool does not also unpack the TAR entries.
Inspect a ZIP archive
Review ZIP entry names, sizes and compression before extraction. An archive listing is not a malware scan.
Example
archive.zip → entry information report- Choose files in ZIP format. Maximum files per batch: 1.
- Review Report format, then start processing.
- Download the Files result and check its content and quality.
What to check
This is a structural report, not an antivirus scan or a guarantee that archived files are safe to open.
Find duplicate files
Find exact byte duplicates even when names differ. This does not identify visually similar photos or delete files.
Example
identical bytes with different names → duplicate-group CSVOpen the tool →Batch rename file copies
Organize file copies with prefixes and numbering after checking the original-to-new name mapping.
Example
original files + prefix/numbering → renamed copies ZIPOpen the tool →This guide describes the public web tools and their support limits. Keep your original and check the downloaded result. Coverton · Corrections and contact
