Convert image formats: JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC

Check the receiving app’s supported formats before converting a photo. JPG suits photographs; PNG can retain transparency. WebP, AVIF and HEIC also depend on the decoder available in your browser or destination app.

Use the free tool →

Start with the destination

Renaming an extension does not convert a file. Use a converter to create a new output, then open it in the receiving app. Decide whether you need a photograph, a transparent logo or a file under a size limit before choosing the output settings.

Check transparency separately from quality

JPG cannot retain transparent areas. Converting an existing JPG to PNG cannot restore detail already lost to compression or invent a transparent background. If size is the problem, compare the output bytes and dimensions instead of repeatedly switching formats.

Animation and iPhone-photo limits

The GIF-to-PNG tool saves the first frame. HEIC conversion handles supported still photos, without preserving Live Photo video, depth information or original metadata. SVG-to-PNG rasterizes a vector image, so choose a useful output size before converting.

Choose the right tool

Example inputs illustrate the workflow; they do not promise a particular file size, recognition accuracy or compatibility.

Convert JPG to PNG

Make a PNG copy for further editing. Changing the format does not restore detail already lost in JPEG compression.

Example

photo.jpg → photo.png
  1. Choose files in JPG, JPEG format. Maximum files per batch: 100.
  2. Review Maximum width (px, 0 = original), Maximum height (px, 0 = original), then start processing.
  3. Download the PNG result and check its content and quality.
What to check

PNG cannot restore detail already lost to JPEG compression, and photographs may become larger.

Convert WEBP to JPG

Make a compatible JPG copy when a downloaded WEBP photo will not open in your document editor.

Example

download.webp → download.jpg
  1. Choose files in WEBP format. Maximum files per batch: 100.
  2. Review Output quality (%), Background color, Maximum width (px, 0 = original), then start processing.
  3. Download the JPG result and check its content and quality.
What to check

The result is a still image; animation and transparency are not retained in JPG.

Open the tool →

Convert JPG to WEBP

Compare the actual size of a JPEG photo re-encoded for the web. A WEBP copy is not guaranteed to be smaller.

Example

photo.jpg → photo.webp
  1. Choose files in JPG, JPEG format. Maximum files per batch: 100.
  2. Review Output quality (%), Maximum width (px, 0 = original), Maximum height (px, 0 = original), then start processing.
  3. Download the WEBP result and check its content and quality.
What to check

Re-encoding may lose detail. Compare the downloaded file size and appearance before replacing your original.

Open the tool →

Convert PNG to WEBP

Prepare transparent graphics for the web and inspect their edges and lettering at the selected quality.

Example

graphic.png → graphic.webp
  1. Choose files in PNG format. Maximum files per batch: 100.
  2. Review Output quality (%), Maximum width (px, 0 = original), Maximum height (px, 0 = original), then start processing.
  3. Download the WEBP result and check its content and quality.
What to check

A quality setting does not guarantee a smaller file or a lossless result.

Open the tool →

Convert WEBP to PNG

Create a PNG copy for an editing or submission workflow that requires PNG. The output can be larger than the source.

Example

graphic.webp → graphic.png
  1. Choose files in WEBP format. Maximum files per batch: 100.
  2. Review Maximum width (px, 0 = original), Maximum height (px, 0 = original), then start processing.
  3. Download the PNG result and check its content and quality.
What to check

PNG output does not recover detail discarded when the WEBP was created; animation is not preserved.

Open the tool →

Convert SVG to PNG

Set pixel dimensions when turning a vector logo into an image for a document. SVGs referencing external resources are restricted.

Example

logo.svg + width/height → logo.png
  1. Choose files in SVG format. Maximum files per batch: 50.
  2. Review Width (px), Height (px), then start processing.
  3. Download the PNG result and check its content and quality.
What to check

Scripts, external references and unsafe SVG structures are rejected. The result is no longer a vector image.

Open the tool →

Convert BMP to PNG

Store or share a bitmap as PNG without adding JPEG-style compression.

Example

drawing.bmp → drawing.png
  1. Choose files in BMP format. Maximum files per batch: 1.
  2. Review Maximum width (px, 0 = original), Maximum height (px, 0 = original), then start processing.
  3. Download the PNG result and check its content and quality.
What to check

The browser must decode the BMP variant. Palette and metadata representation may change.

Open the tool →

Convert GIF to PNG

Use the first frame of a GIF in a document or thumbnail. This does not extract the complete animation into multiple PNGs.

Example

animation.gif → first-frame.png
  1. Choose files in GIF format. Maximum files per batch: 1.
  2. Review Maximum width (px, 0 = original), Maximum height (px, 0 = original), then start processing.
  3. Download the PNG result and check its content and quality.
What to check

This is not an animation converter or a frame-by-frame extractor.

Open the tool →

Convert AVIF to JPG

Convert AVIF for an application that requires JPG. Your browser must be able to decode the source AVIF.

Example

photo.avif → photo.jpg
  1. Choose files in AVIF format. Maximum files per batch: 30.
  2. Review Output quality (%), Background color, Maximum width (px, 0 = original), then start processing.
  3. Download the JPG result and check its content and quality.
What to check

AVIF decoding depends on the browser. HDR, wide-gamut colors and transparency may change.

Open the tool →

Convert AVIF to PNG

Create a PNG editing copy of a supported AVIF. A new storage format does not restore lost source detail.

Example

graphic.avif → graphic.png
  1. Choose files in AVIF format. Maximum files per batch: 30.
  2. Review Maximum width (px, 0 = original), Maximum height (px, 0 = original), then start processing.
  3. Download the PNG result and check its content and quality.
What to check

PNG output does not guarantee retention of the AVIF HDR profile or original metadata.

Open the tool →

Convert ICO to PNG

Use an icon image in a document or editor. With multiple ICO sizes, the browser-selected image is exported.

Example

app.ico → selected icon image.png
  1. Choose files in ICO format. Maximum files per batch: 50.
  2. Review Maximum width (px, 0 = original), Maximum height (px, 0 = original), then start processing.
  3. Download the PNG result and check its content and quality.
What to check

An ICO can contain several sizes. This tool does not export every embedded size separately.

Open the tool →

HEIC to JPG

Share supported HEIC or HEIF still photos as JPG. Live Photo video and depth information are not included.

Example

iPhone still photo.heic → photo.jpgOpen the tool →
