Check CSV and Excel data before import
Keep a copy of the source and check the data before importing it into another system.
Text and identifiers
Preview the correct CSV encoding, then save as UTF-8 with BOM. Keep codes such as 00123 as text. Lost zeros or truncated digits cannot be recovered.
Dates, numbers and duplicates
Specify the order in 03/04; distinguish 1,234.5 from 1.234,5. Choose the key and which duplicate to keep. Check reference keys before joining tables.
Test the destination
Validate required values, uniqueness, types and ranges; map column names and order. Import a few rows and compare identifiers, dates, totals and row counts. Stored XLSX formula results can be read, but formulas are not fully recalculated.
