How to save PNG graphics as WEBP while checking transparent edges

A WEBP copy lets you compare file size while using the transparent areas in a PNG graphic. With logos, diagrams or text, small compression changes deserve attention even when the overall picture looks similar.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose files in PNG format. Maximum files per batch: 100.
  2. Review Output quality (%), Maximum width (px, 0 = original), Maximum height (px, 0 = original), then start processing.
  3. Download the WEBP result and check its content and quality.

Choose the right settings

Select quality and add maximum dimensions only if you need a smaller graphic. Review an output at the original size first so you can distinguish compression changes from the softening caused by resizing.

Examples describe the workflow. Results depend on the source file and settings.

Check the result before you save

Inspect the transparent edges over both light and dark backgrounds. Compare narrow strokes and small lettering with the original PNG to confirm that they remain continuous and readable.

If the result is different from what you expected

Quality changes affect both sharpness and file size. Some older programs cannot open WEBP, so prepare a PNG copy for recipients who need that format instead of assuming every image viewer will accept the new file.

Limits to keep in mind

  • A quality setting does not guarantee a smaller file or a lossless result.
