How to use this tool

  1. Choose files in PNG, WEBP format. Maximum files per batch: 100.
  2. Review Alpha threshold (%), Padding (px), Output quality (%), then start processing.
  3. Download the PNG result and check its content and quality.

What this tool does

  • Detect transparent borders using an alpha threshold and trim them with optional padding.
  • Read PNG, WEBP input and save the PNG result as a new file.
  • Available settings: Alpha threshold (%), Padding (px), Output quality (%).

Limitations

  • A white background is opaque and will not be removed. Higher thresholds can cut off faint edge pixels.

Frequently asked questions

Trim transparent image margins — What should I check before using this tool?

Understand the formats

PNG

PNG stores raster images with lossless compression and supports an alpha channel for transparency.

Use PNG for screenshots, diagrams and interface graphics. Check the pixel dimensions before placing it in a print document.

A PNG file can be larger than a JPG of a photograph. Browser processing can change metadata and color profiles; lossless compression does not guarantee that every source property is retained.

WebP

WebP supports lossy and lossless image compression, transparency and animation. A tool may support only a subset of those features.

Convert a still WebP image to JPG when a receiving application rejects WebP, or to PNG when a transparent background matters.

Coverton’s browser image tools export still images. Do not use a still-image conversion to preserve an animated WebP sequence. Output size depends on the source and chosen quality.

When is this useful?

Trim empty space around a transparent logo using an alpha threshold and padding. This does not remove an opaque white background.

Examples illustrate the workflow; actual size, support and recognition depend on the source and settings.
